Ways that young adults and college students can vote in various aspects.

  1. Absentee Voting- Mail in Voting. Who Is Able to Absentee Vote? For young adults who are traveling or students who are studying away from home, absentee or mail-in voting is an excellent choice. For those who are unable to vote in person, such as college students, the majority of states have absentee voting options. How It Operates: You must request a mail-in ballot from the state election website or your local election office in order to cast an absentee ballot. Make sure to apply well in advance because each state has different deadlines. Give Your Ballot Back: Once your ballot is filled out, mail it back or deliver it to an election office or designated drop box. Make sure it counts by double-checking the criteria and deadlines.
  2. In-Person Voting. Election Day Voting: Conventional in-person voting is conducted at nearby polling stations on Election Day. Verify your polling place, which may differ based on your registered address, in order to cast your ballot in this manner. Early Voting: To provide voters more time and flexibility, several jurisdictions offer early in-person voting days. Verify the early voting dates and locations in your state; early voting frequently results in shorter lines and less wait time!
  3. Provisional Voting. You could still be eligible to cast a provisional ballot if there is a problem with your eligibility or registration when you go to vote. Election officials verify your eligibility before counting your provisional ballots, which serve as placeholders. Young adults who have just moved, have new addresses, or experienced unforeseen issues on election day may find this useful.
  4. Early In-Person Absentee Voting. College students and young adults can also vote early at their hometown location, or where they attend school or live. There are centers that offer this option in every state depending on their district. These centers usually allow availability a couple of weeks in advance to the election.

An Absentee ballot is the most common form of voting out of state or early for college students. It is an opportunity for them to cast their vote without attending a polling site in person, which is very achievable and accommodates their time.

“Voting should be treated as a privilege. Securing the right to vote was not just part of history. Defending that right and ensuring that restrictions are not placed on that right, is our current responsibility as citizens.”- The Community Renewal Society
